Insomnia is a sleeping disorder in which we are unable to fall asleep or difficulty to sleep for long. Sleeplessness is a simple word used for insomnia. Insomnia is usually common in adults but it can occur at any age. Believe it or not but there are some foods that cause insomnia.
Some common symptoms of Insomnia are as follows:
- Not feeling fresh upon waking up.
- Tired during daytime & less productive.
- Having trouble falling asleep.
- Anxiety & daytime sleepiness.
- Waking up several times in the night.
Foods that Cause Insomnia:
1. Spicy Food:
Eating too much spicy food at evening or at dinner can lead to sleep problems. If you’re suffering from acidity then you should never have spicy foods at night.
Cheese contains a large amount of tyrosine. Tyrosine produces Dopamine which is a neurotransmitter in the brain. Dopamine plays a very important role in the brain. It makes brains more active & cause difficulty to sleep.
Caffeine is usually found in coffee, tea, cough medicine & cola drinks. Caffeine is a stimulant. It enters our blood stream & activates neurological movement. Avoid consuming caffeine containing products after 8pm so that you can have a sound sleep.
Alcohol prevents the body from going into a deep sleep stage. Alcohol’s sedating effect leads to insomnia. Read more on alcohol & its related sleep problems. Say no to alcohol before going to bed.
5. Processed Meat:
Processed meat contains a lot of tyrosine which again produces Dopamine, thus increasing brain activity at night. Also, processed meat is the unhealthy junk food that can also lead to many gastro related problems.
Food that are hard to digest can also lead to sleeping problems. Gas problems will affect the sleep.
